An exhibition gathering ink painting works and calligraphy pieces formed by Chinese and Japanese artists is currently being held in Tokyo. As collaboration, the works interpret the theme of "He", or harmony, using light colors and misty strokes.
On display are pieces produced by Chinese ink painter An Yunji, whose teacher was the late master Zhang Daqian. There are also works by a few Japanese ink painters and calligraphers. Water lily, whose Chinese name "He", echoes the theme of the exhibition "harmony", are the frequent objects under the artists' brush.
Modern Chinese calligraphy has seen a integration of calligraphy with painting. This style can be seen in artist Chen Peibin's works. Chen was born in 1949, the same year of the beginning of the People's Republic of China. So his exhibition is not only the conclusion of his decades as an artist, but is dedicated to the sixtieth anniversary of his mother country.
